Pantone—the paint company that "the global authority on color"—announced their Pantone Color of the Year 2019 and the future is bright. Literally. It's called Living Coral, which is a shade of orange with a golden undertone. In a press release, the company says, "Just as coral reefs are a source of sustenance and shelter to sea life, vibrant yet mellow Living Coral embraces us with warmth and nourishment to provide comfort and buoyancy in our in our continually shifting environment."
The color of the year is determined by color consultants at Pantone, who look at seasonal trend forecasts and color psychology. The company says the selection is a reflection of a cultural moment. "As we continue to seek immersive experiences that offer intimacy and genuine connection, Living Coral symbolizes our innate need for optimism and joyful, lighthearted pursuits," the press release writes.
Living Coral (Pantone 16-1546) is vastly different from last years Color of the Year, which was Ultra Violet. "Living Coral encourages immersive, playful experiences," says the brand. The color will certainly add life to any room, whether you go all in or want it for an accent. The press release explains that, "In shag rugs, cozy blankets and lush upholsteries, the hue evokes a feeling of warm, comfort and nature in the home."
