Even if you're not coupled up on Valentine's Day, February 14th doesn't have to be dreadful. When it comes to celebrating the day, actress —who is set to star in on Amazon premiering March 1st—says it's all about love. But not only the romantic sort.
While it may not be such a secret, Kate told CQ, for her, it's important to surround yourself with those you love. "It shouldn’t be a day JUST to celebrate a partner," the partner shares, instead suggesting that you "Take the day to celebrate any of the loving relationships you have in your life."
In other words, no matter whether you're single or taken, you can celebrate. Should you want to do so with a V-Day party instead of watching movies at home this year, Kate has a few tips on how to get it started, set the mood, and make sure it's fun for everyone. Her go to spot to host? Her classic and functional kitchen.
"I have a large island that people can gather around to mingle and cook together, I like the kitchen to be a gathering point in the house. The colors are neutral and I use accessories, like , pretty platters, or candles, to add accents of color as those can be easily changed if I want a quick update to the space." Other than making sure to keep your kitchen fresh, here's Kate's suggestions for hosting the best Valentine's party ever:
Use Music To Set The Mood.
"I use music to create the mood, theme, or atmosphere of a get-together. It is an inexpensive way to show your guest or guests what type of party it is going to be." Now here's hoping she'll tell us exactly what songs are on her playlist soon.
Opt For Finger Foods Instead Of A Meal.
"Instead of serving one big meal, I prefer to put out a bunch of small dishes and finger foods, which keeps people mingling and enjoying the party instead of having to stop what is going on to sit down for a formal meal."
Always Have Flowers And Candles Around.
"It is an instant way to make a space feel dressed up and it can be done as subtlety or as over the top as you want. And once the party is over, you can still enjoy the arrangements!"
Make Sure Your Dishwasher Is Empty Before The Party Starts.
A simple task that makes the party aftermath so much less chaotic. "Everything goes directly from the counter directly there to be cleaned—cleanup is done in a snap!"
