For Cortney Novogratz, a room is only as stunning as its most unexpected decor. The designer, who has been transforming rooms into unique living spaces for 20 years with her husband, Robert, loves creating new ways to display your favorite things.
Cortney's latest innovation is using jewelry as art. "Obviously, jewelry is an adornment to be worn on your body, however, there's no reason why beauty can't be on display all the time in your home," she tells CQ in an email.
Later, over the phone, she added: "In our Brazil home, I draped a chunky beaded necklace at the end of a mirror to add a beautiful, dramatic touch."
Cortney's also used a vintage candle opera to hold several necklaces next to a tub and has used a champagne bucket to corral stacks of bracelets.
"Not only are you creating a place for these items to live, you're letting beauty be on display at all time," says Cortney. If you really think about it, it's not far off from bookshelves. Yes, they have functional purposes, but they're also nice to look at—filled with items like candles and picture frames.
And, if you want to make wall art from your jewels, Cortney recommends getting hooks and scattering them. "If you're going to hang longer and shorter necklaces, make sure there's space," she says. She also suggests necklace wall art for a forgotten space, like a corner behind a door or at the end of a long hallway.
There you have it: You already own the beautiful items you need to customize your home. It's that easy.
