Painting a pumpkin is basically the perfect fall DIY. It's cuter and more personal than putting a plain pumpkin on your porch, but it's not nearly as messy and difficult as carving a jack o'lantern. When adding some paint and a fun design to your pumpkin, you really can't go wrong. Unless, of course, you don't follow the right steps. Don't freak out, though, they're super easy. Trading Spaces' Paige Davis stopped by our studio to break it all down.
Watch the video above to learn how it's done, then check out the step-by-step instructions below for reference. Oh and don't worry about finding the supplies; we've linked everything for you below. See? It's easy already!
What you'll need:
- Damp sponge
- Paper towels
- Paint brushes
- Acrylic paint
- Sealant spray
Clean the pumpkin and dry it off.
Give it a base coat.
Let it dry for 24 hours.
Use painter's tape to prep your design.
Paint a second color on your pumpkin.
Let it dry.
Remove the painter's tape.
PRO TIP: Once all of the paint has dried, spray your finished pumpkin with a sealant spray to protect the paint from chipping, or washing away in the rain.
