News flash: Nobody's life is nearly as perfect as it appears on social media. We all know this, deep down, but it can be hard to remember while you're scrolling. So just a week ago when Nicole Curtis, the star of HGTV's Rehab Addict, shared a refreshingly honest post on Instagram, I was reminded of the fact that yes, this dichotomy exists between real life and the Internet world for celebrities, too.
Amid an ongoing custody battle over her 3-year-old son Harper, Nicole confided in her followers, writing: "My life has 2 sides — 1. Where everything is funny & I can find humor in it all [and] 2. Where my heart is so heavy with emotion it feels like it may burst."
Nicole and the toddler's father, Shane Maguire, filed for , with Harper splitting his time between Los Angeles and Michigan, where each parent lives. Recently, Shane filed against his ex, claiming that because Curtis is "unable or unwilling" to continue nurturing the relationship between father and son, she is unfit to be part of their lives, according to . As part of the request, Shane's asking for sole custody of their son.
Though Nicole doesn't specifically weigh in on the new court filings, her Instagram post elaborates on her struggle with being away from her child on July 4th, and how she was recently asked whether she set out to be an advocate for single moms. "I just set out to be a mom, and moms protect their babies before anything else," she wrote, adding "No child should ever have to choose ... ever. We weren't designed to be separated from our babies."
