Downton Abbey's Christmas special might be a thing of the past, but fans of the TV series can still embrace their love of the show this year, and it doesn't involve binge-watching reruns of seasons one to six.
Highclere Castle, the 5,000 acre Hampshire estate where the show was filmed, is hosting a special Christmas experience in December. Organized by London-based travel company Premium Tours, TripAdvisor is offering an evening visit for £490 per person, which is roughly $627 in USD, including transport via coach from the capital.
Guests will enjoy a glass of champagne and canapés before they are given a guided tour of the castle's grand reception rooms, along with a viewing of the which is open in the cellars from November 24. However, the highlight of the festive evening is a three-course dinner served with wine, followed by carol-singing around the rather impressive Christmas tree that goes up in the hall each year.
This one-off trip is planned for Saturday, December 15, but it isn't the only festive event taking place at the country house in the coming weeks.
The Earl and Countess of Carnarvon, who live at the castle, will host their annual on December 5th and 6th, with Christmas tours taking place from December 9th on. Later in the month, a separate is being held in aid of the RAF100 Appeal. Sounds like the perfect way to get into the festive spirit - and to tap into your inner Lady Mary.
