Raising five kids isn't the easiest task in the world—even for Chip Gaines, who seemingly has it all together. Chip an his wife, Joanna Gaines, are raising quite the fam: Crew, 11 months, Emmie Kay, 9, Duke, 10, Ella Rose, 12, and Drake, 14. Talk about a handful!
Of course, even with all of that experience, Chip Gaines can make mistakes—and sometimes big ones.
“I made every mistake in the book with Drake and Ella both,” the Fixer Upper star confessed to today. “There’s lots of stories of me leaving kids places I shouldn’t have left them. I’ve forgotten birthdays. Afterward you’re like, ‘I’m the worst person.’"
It's understandable—the father of five has a lot on his plate, from starring in a home flipping TV show to starting an entirely new television network, running Magnolia Homes, and so much more. Chip doesn't let his past mistakes phase him.
“But I’m a firm believer that it’s the mistakes that make us who we are. We learn the most from them, and I think that goes for parenting as well,” he adds.
Even though Chip and Joanna just had a new baby, adorable Crew, the home reno expert has 14 years of experience in dad duties under his belt—he's got it covered.
“I was a bit more adventurous than maybe your typical first-time father, but like anyone else we were scared to death because you have no idea what you’re doing,” he says. "At the end of the day we really considered it a big adventure.”
