Who doesn’t love (or need!) a bar cart? They are not only useful, but add an element of fun and anticipation to a space. We all lead busy lives, and it's nice to think about a cocktail hour at the end of a chaotic day or week. And half the fun of a bar cart is stocking it with your favorite brands and accessorizing it with a fun set of glasses!
Bar carts can come in all shapes, sizes and finishes, with styles to fit just about any room, need or aesthetic. Here are some of my favorite finds—and what to consider when you're shopping for one.
Some can be as simple as a tray on a stand. This campaign-style tray on a stand features handsome brass hardware and would be perfect perched in a corner of a gentleman’s office or library.
Or how about this one, in the style of Maison Jansen, with a mirrored tray framed in brass on a steel-and-brass stand? Über chic!
Others have a lower shelf and an upper shelf, which are quite useful for people who like to entertain. Or just have a penchant for collecting chic barware. This Italian beauty has a tinted glass lower shelf, a mirrored upper shelf, complete with a storage box for extra bottles.
This mid-century version is in a blond wood with a practical and easily cleaned black formica top. The drop leaves open, giving you a larger tabletop when you're hosting a party.
I discovered this English Regency bar trolley in a flea market and snapped it up immediately. It is a standout for its form and craftsmanship. The upper level, in a modified figure-8 shape, retains its original copper liner. The center portion holds three small compartments, while the ends are outlined in turned spindles, and the turned legs are on casters. This piece oozes with personality!
With its lucite and brass accents, this sleek gem packs a lot of punch without taking up much space:
One of the most unique ones I have found was produced by Christofle Silver. Its silverplate frame and tinted mirror shelves give it instant style, glamour and elegance. Complete with its Christofle silver marking, this is not your average bar cart!
Really, when it comes to bar carts, you can't go wrong, as long as the piece fits whatever corner, nook or area you've imagined for it, has enough storage to suit your needs, and pleases your eye. Do what works best for you, and once you've set it up, toast to your great find.
Happy Cocktail Hour!
