You'll have all the feels over their story.

There's no denying that your life changes when you become a parent, but it's hard to know just how, exactly, those changes will take shape — and shape you — until you're holding the baby in your arms, suddenly responsible for ensuring that tiny human is clothed, fed, and you know, doesn't grow up to be a total sociopath. It can be a lot of pressure.

Designers Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent welcome those challenges though. As the father to 3-year-old Poppy, and their newborn son, Oskar, they've seen firsthand how their lives have been reordered, and they wouldn't have things any other way. It's become the central focus of their lives, to the point that even their TLC home makeover show, Nate & Jeremiah By Design, features them caring for their kids just as much as it shows the families they help. And they recently partnered with Huggies to help the brand launch its customizable line of diapers, .

More than that, though, being parents has changed who they are — and how they see the world. During the Huggies By Design launch party, the duo took a few minutes to chat over the phone about the difference between having two kids versus one, their biggest takeaways as dads, and why one little phrase from Poppy can make their whole day.

Nate Was "Jumpy" After Bringing Poppy Home For The First Time.

For Jeremiah, becoming a father was like seeing a side of the universe he didn't know existed. "You look at the world through a different lens," Jeremiah said. "Life became playful, and spontaneous, and frustrating at times."

Part of that was seeing things through their kids' eyes — and part was suddenly seeing hidden dangers everywhere, no matter how much babyproofing you do.

"I had this elevated consciousness of making sure everything was safe," Nate explained, about the day he became a parent. "I'm a little jumpy about stairs and stuff."

Bringing Home Oskar Changed Things Further.

"There's a beautiful chaos of having two kids as opposed to one," Nate said, adding that their morning routine has gotten a little more complicated — particularly if both kids are crying at once, which happened recently — but that Jeremiah's a pro at maintaining order.

At three years old, Poppy's a little young to be changing diapers, but she's still very interested in her baby brother. Or as interested as a toddler can be. "She pays just enough attention," Nate said. "She gives him a kiss in the morning and ignores him the rest of the day."

Poppy's Got Quite The Eye For Design Already.

"Poppy has opinions about everything," Nate laughed. "She'll tell us if she doesn't like what we're wearing, and the biggest compliment is if she looks at one of us and goes 'oooh la la.'"

"I got that the other day, and it's a big deal," Jeremiah interjected.

"That is the biggest compliment. It means she likes what we picked out," Nate said.

As mushy as it sounds, as parents, Nate and Jeremiah feel grateful more than anything. Being a parent "is a gift I never thought I'd be given, so to have this little tribe is incredible," Jeremiah said. "I discovered I'm a lot more patient than I thought I'd be. It takes a lot to shake me."

"I marvel at how Jeremiah is so consistent," Nate said. On his end, he's learned just how much he values the little moments in every day: "I love the ceremony of waking them up in the morning, picking them up when they fall, and walking them through the complexities of their day."
