Before Jayson Home opened in Chicago in 1997, the neighborhood was an abandoned factory district. Now, the home store is surrounded by furniture and decor shops, though none quite compare to the atmosphere at Jayson Home—and not just because it's flooded with natural light, thanks to the skylights running the length of the store. It's a great resource for new and interesting items, and on top of that, a pretty fun place to hang out.
"We like to party!" Devin Kirk, Jayson Home's VP and director of merchandising tells CQ. "We frequently have bands playing out in the garden, food trucks out front, and bubbly flowing on the weekends. People love to hang out in our store, and we like it that way." Basically, you're guaranteed to have fun while you shop.
Jayson Home is stocked with new and vintage furniture and decor items from around the world, not to mention custom options as well. In the store, you'll find a swatch library full of hundreds of fabric samples to choose from, for example. Devin says that he and Jayson Home's creative director Caroline Scheeler travel about 150,000 miles per year on buying trips, "hand-picking every single thing you see in the store, and developing new items with artisans and makers around the world." These buying trips include frequent visits to France, Spain, England, Morocco, Malaysia, India, and around the United States.
"My favorite thing about our store is that it's always changing," Devin says. "We have so many one-of-a-kind items that are constantly coming and going, the store is pretty much guaranteed to never be the same place each time you visit. Because of that, we now have faithful regulars who have caught on and stop in once a week to see what's new before it's gone or to get first crack at our latest shipment."
Along with Jayson Home's furniture and decor offerings, the store is also home to a full-service flower shop. "We do gorgeous custom arrangements and have experts on hand to help with all the houseplants we carry," Devin says. And on top of that, you'll also find apothecary items and tons of home fragrance options from brands like Diptyque and Astier de Villatte. Furniture, fresh flowers, and candles all in one spot, with the added bonus of food trucks and champagne? It really can't be beat.
Oh, and Jayson Home isn't just an interior designer favorite—it's also a favorite brand for set designers, too, for those working in Chicago and beyond. "Our pieces have appeared in hundreds of films and TV shows including The Oprah Show, Chicago Fire, Modern Family, Ocean's Twelve, and Django Unchained," Devin says.
If you do make the trip to Jayson Home, definitely don't forget to pop over to the building next door, which is actually Jayson Home's sale room. Inside, you'll find all of the brand's clearance merchandise with discounts of up to 75 percent off—amazing if you can't resist a good deal.
You can visit Jayson Home in Chicago at 1885 North Clybourn Ave. Of course, any time of year is a good time to stop by, but Devin notes that early summer—when the store's outdoor garden center is in full swing—is the most fun, along with the holiday season. "The garden switches over to sell the most beautiful fresh-cut Christmas trees you've ever seen, and the store gets all decked out for the holidays with fresh greens, blooming bulbs, and tons of gift options." And don't worry—if you can't make it to the store in-person, you can always shop online.
