Sometimes the best way to add a little extra life to a space is by adding, well ... some actual life. Usually of the plant variety. A plant or two can make a home feel fresher and more fun, but if you don't have a lot of room to let your green thumb truly thrive, you'll need to find creative new ways to make space for them. That's where these floating shelves from Umbra come in, so you can have your plants and storage, too.
Umbra Cubist Floating Planter Shelf, $46.67, amazon.com
These shelves are basically 95 percent shelf, 5 percent planter — and 100 percent cool AF. Their cube-within-a-cube design is modern and fun, and the shelf part leaves you with plenty of space to store whatever you'd like. Books, photos, knickknacks ... you name it. At the top, you'll find a built-in planter box that's designed to be a home for succulents.
Each shelf holds up to 15 pounds, and measures 15 inches by 15 inches (and 5.5 inches deep). If you don't quite have the wall space for the large cube shelves, Umbra also makes smaller shelves with planter boxes — and if plants aren't your thing, you can also use the wooden planter box to store and display other items. You can see the smaller shelf (with pens in the planter box instead) below.
